PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder 837 was founded in July 2001. It was the brainstorm of Frank Mabry Jr. USMC retired & Charles L. Waite, MD, FAAP, FACP, Rear Admiral, Medical Corps.

PTSD 837 was founded as a support service for the United States Military Veterans that suffer from social and economic ills through assistance with housing, counseling,  support services and family unification.

As the Director of the Montezuma Gardeners, incorporated in October 1990 in Brooklyn, New York, I saw greening as an incredible tool to calm the mind as well as feed families. The realization of the importance of touching the earth and watching plants grow was a  concept incorporated for Veterans and their families under PTSD 837.

For over 30 years I volunteered for America the Beautiful Fund saving plant material that was earmarked for disposal. PTSD 837 has continued the practice of contacting growers, seed companies, nurseries, and organizations such as Home Depot,  to provide plants, bulbs, seeds and trees to school systems and community gardens.  We have provided materials to schools in New York, Maryland, Michigan, Tennessee, California and Mississippi and have planted community gardens in collaboration with Green Thumb, Grow NYC and the New York City Housing Authority.

PTSD 837 was honored by the New York City Housing Authority with The Partnership Award in 2016.

Twice a year PTSD 837 hosts a bulb giveaway open to all in need.
